About Us

We are a garden design and construction company.

a sense of place
We take into account:

  • the contour of the land and the flow of the water,
  • the architecture and style of the house,
  • the lifestyle of the clients

We work with the natural beauty of Central Texas; maintaining its regional heritage.

We try to stay in keeping with the beauty of the region, using primarily indigenous building materials and native or well adapted plants while still maintaining a sense of order and structure – a sense of place.  We think in terms of developing creative solutions that deal with difficult terrains using natural and organic materials.

Together with your ideas, we can create a place where nature is in partnership with humans and provide an outdoor living space or sanctuary.

our team

Annie Gillespie, Owner

Annie has enjoyed her involvement with native plants in planned landscapes for the last 30 years beginning with her studies at the University of Montana, graduating with a B.A. in Botany.  What truly sets Annie apart is her creative passion. Annie’s true interest is designing to build; putting what is on paper on the ground. Growing up in the family construction business gave her a background that allows her to take her vision and bring it to reality. Combining her construction background with a lifelong passion for gardening, makes Annie an unique talent and leader in the field of design/build.-

After graduating from University, she worked as a botanist at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center for seven years.  In 1994, she formed her own company, Botanical Concerns and offered a full range of ecological services including surveys, monitoring, analysis and reports.  By 1997, Botanical Concerns had evolved into a full service landscape design/build company specializing in native and well adapted gardens.

design and maintenance

Design

A designer’s job is to analyze your goals, desires and budget and see the project through with a design right for you.  Elements to consider include:
  • patios/decks
  • water features including ponds, waterfalls and fountains
  • pools/spas
  • plant bed layout
  • pergolas/shade structures
  • walkways/driveways
  • drainage problems

Construction

The majority of construction is handled in house with Botanical Concerns’ full time, long term employees.   The only services we subcontract are irrigation, electrical and carpentry.  We prefer to have control over each job from start to finish.

Garden Maintenance

We also offer customized maintenance for your garden. We are committed to using safe and effective horticultural practices including integrated pest management (IPM) and responsible fertilizer use. Services can be provided by the day, week, month or season. Our garden care will preserve the value and natural beauty of your landscape.
